Dogs Digging?

UKpackleader Dog Behaviourist - Dealing With All Dog Problems Big Or Small

UKpackleader Dog Behaviourist - Dealing With All Dog Problems Big Or Small

Does your dog dig in the garden?

Does your dog ever get chance to go out of the garden?

Yes to both questions, the digging dosnt seem to have a reason we can see, We had a male basset who loved to dig so had a diggin area, one of our female bassets completely ignores the area and digs in the middle of the garden, our pup bracco digs both areas and has a hole of her own, i suspect shes digging to get stones though, Helen xx

There is many reasons why a dog will dig in the garden. The main reasons are, a learned behaviour from other dogs in the family that dig. When it is warm they can cool themselves down by digging a hole, so they can lay in it. Dogs that are not been excercised enough and so have pent up energy, try to get rid of it through digging, (different breeds... See more require different amounts of exercise). The last main one is boredom. If for example they have their toys available all the time, dogs can get bored and want to find something else to do, hence learned behaviour from other dogs. A way around it is taking away the decent toys and bringing them out now and again for them, or invent challenging games for them to do. If you require challenging games let me know and i will post some. If your bassett digs when it coincides with loud noises, message me. I hope this helps
